Heady associates of kind hearts (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

coronets

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This could be a double definition.

'heady associates' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.

'kind hearts' is the second definition.
The answer and definition can be both man-made objects as well as being plural nouns.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for coronets that I've seen before include ""Kind hearts are more than _____ ..." , "worn on the head?" , "Small crowns" , "Parts of horses' feet" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
