Lecture dealing with India partitioning (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tirade

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'lecture' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'dealing with india partitioning' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'india' could be 'i' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.) and 'i' is located in the answer.
'dealing' could be 'trade' (trade is a kind of dealing) and 'trade' is present in the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tirade that I've seen before include "String of invective" , "Erode or melt (material)" , "lecture" , "Prolonged speech of abuse" , "Loud harangue" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times and The Sunday Times.
