Like the water to jump across? (5)
I believe the answer is:
clear
'jump across?' is the definition.
(jumping across is a kind of clearing)
'like the water' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'water' could be 'ea' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'ea' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for clear that I've seen before include "Jump over without contact" , "Distinct - obvious" , "Acquit" , "Understandable" , "Disengaged" .)
