New-style animal (3)
I believe the answer is:
gnu
'animal' is the definition.
(type of antelope)
'new-style' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'new' could be 'n' (common abbreviation eg NT for New Testament) and 'n' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'gu' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for gnu that I've seen before include "Large heavy antelope" , "Gun to get antelope" , "Large African antelope" , "Strange gun for an antelope" , "Animal" .)
