Novel of Paris and of another city (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

roman

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'novel' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'of paris and of another city' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is present in the answer.
'and' could be 'n' (common abbreviation for 'and') and 'n' is found within the answer.
'another' could be 'r' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'r' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ma' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for roman that I've seen before include "(Of a nose) high-bridged" , "Classical" , "Type of candle, nose etc" , "Sort of face" , "Manor (anag.)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
