One possibly in dread of being attacked (6)
I believe the answer is:
raided
'being attacked' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'one possibly in dread' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is found within the answer.
an anagram of 'dread' is 'raded' which is located in the left over letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'of' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for raided that I've seen before include "Made a sudden surprise attack on" , "Attacked" , "Entered a territory and took spoils" .)
