I believe the answer is:

earwax

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'organ swell that might hamper listener?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'organ swell' is the wordplay.
'organ' becomes 'ear' (the ear is an organ).
'swell' becomes 'wax' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'ear'+'wax'='EARWAX'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for earwax that I've seen before include "Otic deposit" , "Soft yellow secretion - cerumen" , "Shell-like secretion" , "Otic secretion" , "Secretion from aural glands" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
