Oscar for supporting role (6-2-7)
I believe the answer is:
second-in-command
'oscar' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.
'supporting role' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'role' could be 'second' (second is a kind of role) and 'second' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'incommand' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for second-in-command that I've seen before include "Deputy" , "Officer immediately below chief officer" .)
