stretch ones legs

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'take a walk' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'period of time before one's members' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'period' could be 'stretch' (stretch of time) and 'stretch' is located in the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is found within the answer.
'members' could be 'legs' (leg is a kind of member) and 'legs' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'nes' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
