I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'row' could be 'line' (as in a row of things) and 'line' is found within the answer.
'bearing' could be 'e' (East, a compass bearing or direction) and 'e' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'pip' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
