Sweet ones are flowery (4)
I believe the answer is:
peas
'sweet ones' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.
'are flowery' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'are' could be 'a' (short for 'are', historical unit of measurement) and 'a' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'pes' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for peas that I've seen before include "Leguminous seeds" , "Leguminous plants" , "Vegetables from pods" , "Green vegetable seeds" , "pulse" .)
