Crossword Genius

Watch how you pull up going round a bend (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

guard

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'watch how' is the definition.
'guard' can be an answer for 'watch' (guarding is a kind of watching). I am unsure of the 'how' bit.

'pull up going round a bend' is the wordplay.
'pull' becomes 'drag' (drag is a kind of pull).
'up' says the letters should be written in reverse (in down clue: letters go upwards).
'going round' is an insertion indicator (some letters go around others).
'a bend' becomes 'U' (a U-bend is a kind of bend - pipe under sink).
'drag' reversed gives 'gard'.
'gard' placed around 'u' is 'GUARD'.

'you' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for guard that I've seen before include "Protect" , "Custodian" , "Protect(or)" , "Yeomen" , "Warden; defend" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
