Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'it' could be 't' (abbreviation. e.g. in 'tis) and 't' is found within the answer.
'quietly?' could be 'p' (p for piano and quiet) and 'p' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'i' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
