Where one could murder a whisky? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

islay

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a whisky?' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'where one could murder' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is found within the answer.
'murder' could be 'slay' (synonyms) and 'slay' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for islay that I've seen before include "Island noted for whisky" , "Island of the Inner Hebrides" , "Inner Hebridean island" , "malt from here!" , "part of the Hebrides" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
