Crossword Genius

You put in an order to get it (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tidiness

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'you' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are singular nouns.
Perhaps you can see a link between them that I can't see?

'in an order to get it' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'in' is present in the answer.
'an' could be 'i' (Roman numeral for one) and 'i' is found in the answer.
'it' could be 't' (abbreviation. e.g. in 'tis) and 't' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'put' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tidiness that I've seen before include "Quality of neatness and orderliness" , "good order" , "sense of order" , "Insisted on neatness." , "Orderly quality" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
