A bad place with directions for Greek (7)
I believe the answer is:
hellene
'for greek' is the definition.
(term for an ancient Greek)
'a bad place with directions' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'place' could be 'hell' (I have seen 'Infernal place' mean 'hell' so perhaps 'place' could also mean 'hell') and 'hell' is found within the answer.
'directions' could be 'ne' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'ne' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hellene that I've seen before include "Greek girl" , "old Greek" .)
