Crossword Genius

A doctor probing eyes, we hear, and feet (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

iambi

'feet' is the definition.
(plural of iamb, a type of metrical foot in poetry)

'a doctor probing eyes we hear' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'a' is found in the answer.
'doctor' could be 'mb' (Bachelor of Medicine, Medicinae Baccalaureus) and 'mb' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'and' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for iambi that I've seen before include "Metrical units with alternating long and short syllables" , "Short-long metrical feet" , "Feet of two syllables (one short and one long)" , "Concierto de Aranjuez composer" , "Poetic pieces" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
