A little packing for the inner man? (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

wad

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a little' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both quantities as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

'packing for the inner man?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'man?' could be 'ad' and 'ad' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'w' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for wad that I've seen before include "Small bundle" , "Lump or bundle of soft material" , "Bankroll; sandwich (slang)" , "Small mass of soft material" , "Bundle of soft material or of banknotes" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
