Crossword Genius

A lot of credit for intersecting two curved shapes in parallel (6,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

arctic circle

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'in parallel' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'a lot of credit for intersecting two curved shapes' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'a' is present in the answer.
'lot' could be 'circle' (synonyms) and 'circle' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for arctic circle that I've seen before include "Imaginary line at approximately latitude 66 degrees 32' North" , "Top of the world" , "In parallel" , "Line circling the north pole" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
