A low place with a good stock of wine (6)
I believe the answer is:
cellar
'stock of wine' is the definition.
(where wine is stored)
'a low place with a good' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'a' is within the answer.
'place' could be 'cell' (I have seen 'Place of confinement ' mean 'cell' so perhaps 'place' could also mean 'cell') and 'cell' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'r' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for cellar that I've seen before include "Basement room, wine may be stored there" , "Bottom room where wine is often stored" , "Where provisions may be stored" , "Wine stock; sounds like vendor" , "Room below ground for storage" .)
