I believe the answer is:

ancient

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'be very old' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'a new coin seen here? one held' is the wordplay.
'new coin' becomes 'nc' (this could be a standard abbreviation which I don't know about).
'seen' says to put letters next to each other.
'here?' becomes 'ent' (I've seen this in other clues).
'one' becomes 'i' (Roman numeral).
'held' is an insertion indicator.
'nc'+'ent'='ncent'
'ncent' placed around 'i' is 'ncient'.
'a'+'ncient'='ANCIENT'

'to' is the link.

(Other definitions for ancient that I've seen before include "Historic standard" , "Very old, belonging to times long ago" , "so old-fashioned" , "Antiquated" , "Pistol" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
