Crossword Genius

A noted bloomer in springtime (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

easter

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'springtime' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both related to time as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'a noted bloomer' is the wordplay.
'a noted' becomes 'e' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'bloomer' becomes 'aster' (aster is a kind of flowering plant).
'e'+'aster'='EASTER'

'in' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for easter that I've seen before include "Resurrection festival" , "Christian celebration at the end of Lent" , "Important Christian festival" , "Teaser (anag.)" , "Parade; egg; lily" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
