Crossword Genius

A party to most of the fodder coming back in from Kabul (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

afghani

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'kabul' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.

'a party to most of the fodder coming back in' is the wordplay.
'party' becomes 'fg' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'to most of' means to remove the last letter.
'the fodder' becomes 'hay' (hay is a kind of fodder).
'coming back' is a reversal indicator.
'in' reversed gives 'ni'.
'hay' with its final letter taken off is 'ha'.
'a'+'fg'+'ha'+'ni'='AFGHANI'

'from' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for afghani that I've seen before include "One coming from Kabul" , "Asian capital" , "From Kabul, for example" , "language" , "Native of Kabul, say" .)

I've seen this clue in the Irish Times (Crosaire) and the Irish Times.
