Crossword Genius

A picture for public display (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

scene

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue could be a double definition.

'a picture' is the first definition.
(scene is a kind of picture)

'public display' is the second definition.
'scene' can be an answer for 'display' (I have seen 'Display of emotion' mean 'scene' so perhaps 'display' could also mean 'scene'). I am not sure about the 'public' bit.

'for' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for scene that I've seen before include "Landscape; public display of anger" , "Picture" , "Landscape; part of act" , "Location; outburst" , "Part of a pantomime" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
