Crossword Genius

A remission to allow you to rise (3-2)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

let-up

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'rise' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both related to change as well as being verbs in their base form.
Maybe there's an association between them I don't understand?

'a remission to allow you' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'allow' could be 'let' (synonyms) and 'let' is present in the answer.
'you' could be 'u' (homophones) and 'u' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'p' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'to' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for let-up that I've seen before include "Respite, relief" , "Pause, temporary respite" , "Relieving pause" , "Decline" , "Pause in intensity" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
