A second hole, then comes the rain (5)
I believe the answer is:
other
'a second' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'hole then comes the rain' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'hole' could be 'o' and 'o' is present in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'her' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for other that I've seen before include "Alternate; additional" , "Remaining" , "Throe (anag)" , "Different (from those mentioned)" , "Alternative of two" .)
