Crossword Genius

A secretary/accountant rings Lima wool supplier (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

alpaca

'wool supplier' is the definition.
(wool may come from alpacas)

'a secretaryaccountant rings lima' is the wordplay.
'secretaryaccountant' becomes 'paca' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'rings' means one lot of letters goes inside another (some letters are ringed or contained by others).
'lima' becomes 'L' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.).
'a'+'paca'='apaca'
'apaca' placed around 'l' is 'ALPACA'.

(Other definitions for alpaca that I've seen before include "Woolly animal" , "creature of the Andes" , "Wool of S American lama" , "Type of wool" , "Llama-like domesticated animal, valued for its wool" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
