A sound you could make with a cup (3)
I believe the answer is:
hic
'a sound' is the definition.
(I have seen 'Sound of inebriation ' mean 'hic' so perhaps 'sound' could also mean 'hic')
I don't understand how the remainder of the clue works.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hic that I've seen before include "Involuntary noise cause by a spasm" , "In Latin, here and now - ? et nunc" , "Sound of involuntary diaphragm contraction" , "here in Rome" , "Noise of involuntary diaphragh spasm" .)
