Crossword Genius

A star speaker speaking (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

spica

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a star' is the definition.
(I know that Spica is a star)

'speaker speaking' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'speaker' could be 'i' ('I' refers to the person saying it) and 'i' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'spca' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for spica that I've seen before include "Bright star" , "Virgo's brightest star" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
