agree to differ

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'don't argue' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'a welcome present must include diamonds and i' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'a' is found in the answer.
'welcome' could be 'greet' (I've seen this before) and 'greet' is located in the answer.
'diamonds' could be 'd' (abbreviation for the card suit diamonds) and 'd' is located in the answer.
'i' is present in the answer.
'present' could be 'offer' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'offer' is present in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for agree to differ that I've seen before include "Amicably entertain divergent views" , "Not try to convince each other" , "Fail to meet" , "Accept multiple opinions" , "Coexist with opposing views" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
