I believe the answer is:

short

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'abrupt' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'attempt to bear right' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'right' could be 'rt' (abbreviation as in Rt Hon- the Right Honourable) and 'rt' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'sho' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for short that I've seen before include "Neat" , "Having little length" , "Small in height" , "Of small duration" , "Cause to blow a fuse" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
