Accommodates, as it were, men in drunken state? (6)
I believe the answer is:
stupor
'drunken state?' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'accommodates as it were men' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'it' could be 't' (abbreviation. e.g. in 'tis) and 't' is located in the answer.
'men' could be 'or' (Other Ranks: non-commissioned soldiers) and 'or' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'sup' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'in' is the link.
(Other definitions for stupor that I've seen before include "Insensible state" , "result of too much snow?" , "Semi-conscious state" , "Shocked or drunken state" , "Apathy" .)
