Addressing hospital, feeling unwell (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hailing

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'addressing' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with communicating as well as being present participle verbs.
Maybe you can see an association between them that I don't see?

'hospital feeling unwell' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'hospital' could be 'h' (abbreviation for hospital on maps) and 'h' is located in the answer.
'unwell' could be 'ailing' (synonyms) and 'ailing' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for hailing that I've seen before include "Raining ice" , "Greeting" , "Waving to (a taxi)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
