Adds to the contents of the jug (7)
I believe the answer is:
arrests
This might be a double definition.
'adds to' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their -s form, I cannot see how they can define each other.
'contents of the jug' is the second definition.
The definition and answer can be both states of affairs as well as being plural nouns.
Maybe there's an association between them I don't understand?
'the' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for arrests that I've seen before include "has a heart attack" , "Checks" , "collars" , "made by police" , "Stops and takes into custody" .)
