Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how they can define each other.

I cannot quite understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'height' is 'highte' which is present in the answer.
'church' could be 'ch' (common abbreviation) and 'ch' is located in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
