Crossword Genius

African notes Irish bank will be established in Northern Ireland by fellow from the south (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

namibian

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'african' is the definition.
(Namibian is an example)

'by fellow from the south' is the wordplay.
'by' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'fellow' becomes 'ian' (common masculine name).
'from the south' becomes 'namib' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'ian' after 'namib' is 'NAMIBIAN'.

'notes irish bank will be established in northern ireland' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for namibian that I've seen before include "Eg, Windhoek native" , "From a southern African country" , "Relating to a country of southern Africa" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
