Aldi cooking base stocked - just the job (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

ideal

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'just the job' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'aldi cooking base stocked' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'base' could be 'e' (Euler's number - base of natural logarithms) and 'e' is located in the answer.
an anagram of 'aldi' is 'idal' which is located in the left over letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for ideal that I've seen before include "(the best one can get)" , "Embodying perfection" , "Perfect; a standard of perfection" , "Standard of perfection or excellence" , "Perfect but perhaps unlikely to become reality" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
