I believe the answer is:
key in
'enter' is the definition.
(both can mean to type out)
'alight following guide' is the wordplay.
'alight' becomes 'in' (in can mean set alight).
'following' says to put letters next to each other.
'guide' becomes 'key' (eg the key is the guide to a map).
'in' put after 'key' is 'KEY IN'.
'and' is the link.
(Another definition for key in that I've seen is " Enter data".)
