All het up when sacked (5)

I believe the answer is:
fired
'sacked' is the definition.
(both can mean dismissed from a job)
'all het up' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'all het up' could be 'ired' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'ired' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'f' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'when' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fired that I've seen before include "Aroused" , "got rid of" , "Encouraged" , "Dismissed; set off" , "Dismissed or ignited" .)
