Allowed force and shouted (7)
I believe the answer is:
granted
'allowed' is the definition.
('grant' can be a synonym of 'allow')
'force and shouted' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'force' could be 'g' (short for gravity) and 'g' is found within the answer.
'and' could be 'n' (common abbreviation for 'and') and 'n' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rated' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for granted that I've seen before include "Conceded" , "One doesn't like being taken for it" , "Admitted" , "OK - allowed" , "Given; allowed" .)
