An aid to appreciation of light literature? (7,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

reading lamp

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'an aid' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'appreciation of light literature?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'light' could be 'lamp' (lamp is a kind of light) and 'lamp' is found within the answer.
'literature?' could be 'reading' (I've seen this before) and 'reading' is found in the answer.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'to' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for reading lamp that I've seen before include "An aid to lucubration" , "Pale and grim (anag) - source of illumination" , "Light in library, perhaps" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
