skimp

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'creosote in monty python's the meaning of life' is the definition.
I can't tell whether this defines the answer.

'and don't on the pte mr' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'mr' could be 'kim' and 'kim' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for skimp that I've seen before include "Spend little" , "Limit in quality or quantity" , "Provide too few resources on grounds of economy" , "hasty" , "Subsist on very little" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
