Angrily slam a large city's complaint (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

salmonella

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'complaint' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how they can define each other.

'angrily slam a large city's' is the wordplay.
'angrily' indicates an anagram (I've seen this in other clues).
'a' becomes 'one'.
'large' becomes 'L' (eg in clothes sizes).
'city' becomes 'LA' (Los Angeles).
'slam' with letters rearranged gives 'salm'.
'salm'+'one'+'l'+'la'='SALMONELLA'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for salmonella that I've seen before include "Food poisoning bacterium" , "Cause of food poisoning" , "Nasty bug" , "Source of complaint" , "stomach trouble" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
