Crossword Genius

Animal in a shopping centre turned up (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

llama

'animal' is the definition.
(I know that llama is a type of animal)

'a shopping centre turned up' is the wordplay.
'shopping centre' becomes 'mall' (a mall is a large shopping complex).
'turned up' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'a'+'mall'='amall'
'amall' reversed gives 'LLAMA'.

'in' is the link.

(Other definitions for llama that I've seen before include "South American carrier" , "One bearing burden" , "Domesticated pack animal of the Andes" , "Camel-like wool source" , "Animal related to camels but smaller and lacking a hump" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
