Crossword Genius

Annie is one finding empty pouch in North African port (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

orphan

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'annie' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'empty pouch in north african port' is the wordplay.
'empty' says to hollow out the word (remove centre letters).
'in' is an insertion indicator.
'north african port' becomes 'oran' (I've seen this in another clue).
'pouch' with its centre taken out is 'ph'.
'ph' inserted within 'oran' is 'ORPHAN'.

'is one finding' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for orphan that I've seen before include "Parentless child" , "Child deprived by death of both parents" , "Child such as Harry Potter or Jane Eyre" , "Child bereft of parents" , "little Annie, maybe?" .)
