Answer to go down badly after Mike's explosive threat (6,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

atomic bomb

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'explosive threat' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how they can define each other.

'answer to go down badly after mike's' is the wordplay.
'answer' becomes 'a' (abbreviation eg in Q and A).
'go down badly' becomes 'bomb' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'after' says to put letters next to each other.
'mike' becomes 'mic' (I've seen this in other clues).
'bomb' after 'mic' is 'micbomb'.
'a'+'to'+'micbomb'='ATOMIC BOMB'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for atomic bomb that I've seen is " Nuclear weapon".)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
