Antiques — British Isles to return a couple shortly (4-1-4)

I believe the answer is:
bric-a-brac
'antiques' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'british isles to return a couple shortly' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'british' could be 'br' (abbreviation for British) and 'br' is found within the answer.
'a' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for bric-a-brac that I've seen before include "Treasured odds and ends" , "Odd items of furniture, ornaments etc" , "Miscellaneous small objects, especially curios" , "Miscellaneous objects of little value" , "Miscellaneous small ornaments" .)
