Anxious, personal pride about office having backfired (2,4)
I believe the answer is:
on edge
'anxious' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'personal pride about office having backfired' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'about' could be 'on' (as in a book 'on' a certain topic) and 'on' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'edge' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for on edge that I've seen before include "Nervous and tense - close to cliff?" , "looking down at Much Wenlock?" , "Cliff-top walker may be" , "Tense and irritable, with nerves stretched" , "Under stress" .)
