Crossword Genius

Apes have one of their own (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

planet

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'apes have' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both people as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe you can see an association between them that I don't see?

'one of their own' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'one' could be 'ane' (synonyms) and 'ane' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for planet that I've seen before include "one of seven in suite" , "World" , "Mars or Uranus" , "Celestial body that revolves around the sun" , "Eg, Mars or Pluto" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
