Apparently laid-up, as announced? (6)
I believe the answer is:
billed
'announced?' is the definition.
'apparently laid-up' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'laid up' could be 'ill' ('ill' can be similar in meaning to 'laid up') and 'ill' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'bed' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).
'as' acts as a link.
(Other definitions for billed that I've seen before include "Listed in a programme; charged" , "Sent an invoice" , "Caressed" , "Advertised" .)
